Call for Abstracts & Registration
Invitation
On behalf of the Organizing Committee for ASB98, I am pleased to invite all biophysicists to Canberra for the 22nd meeting of the Australian Society for Biophysics to be held from Friday, December 4 to Sunday, December 6, 1998.
No special theme has been chosen for the conference this year, but we are hoping that all biophysicists, young and old, in Australia and New Zealand, will make an effort to come to Canberra to participate in one of Australia's growing scientific societies. In addition to the plenary and invited talks, there will be contributed oral and poster presentations to allow everyone an opportunity to present their latest results. Six international speakers will be attending, including the plenary lecturer, Prof. G.T. Babcock, from Michigan State University. The guest speaker at the conference dinner will be Prof. Brian Anderson, President of the Australian Academy of Science.

Weather
In early December the climate in the Canberra is usually very pleasant with warm sunny days and temperatures around 25ûC. However, because of the altitude (the Canberra region is 600-800 m above sea level), nights can be cool with a drop in temperature of 10-15ûC. Also, because of the La Nina event this year, extensive rainy periods may be possible; however they usually do not last for more than a day before the sun comes out again. The best option is to check the four-day weather forecast on the internet before you embark for Canberra (http://www.intellicast.com/weather/cbr/)
Travel
Delegates should make their own travel arrangements. There is no designated
airline for the Conference.
If you are arriving at the Canberra airport or train station, you can
travel to the City/University by taxi for approximately $10-15. If you
come by car, the visitor parking fee on campus is about $6/day; however,
we are currently trying to organize a group parking permit ion in which
case there will be no charge. Since classes will have ended by the time
of the conference, parking on campus should be readily available.
Accommodation
Accommodation on the ANU campus is available either in the University
House (Building 1, Quadrant 3), which is set up like a hotel, or in the
Bruce/Burton and Garran Colleges, (Building 49, Quadrant 2), which is dormitory
style. The University House charges $83/night for a single room and $95/night
for a double room. The Colleges provide bed and breakfast for $40/night.
Please indicate your preference on the accommodation form. We will reserve
a room for you if you decide to stay at the University House, otherwise
there is a separate reservation form for the Colleges that needs to be
filled out and sent directly to the College administration. All arrangements
for payments are made directly with the providers of the accommodation.
